Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens
Take mom to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and check out its over 11,000 blooming tulips this Mother’s Day. All moms will receive free admission during their special day on May 12.
Duckling Day parade
Boston Common, Boston
There are few children stories that embody the strong, maternal spirit inherent in Mother’s Day quite like Robert McCloskey’s 1941 picture book “Make Way for Ducklings.’’ Boston (the story’s setting) has wholeheartedly embraced this classic tale, highlighted by the bronze statues of the ducklings found in the Boston Public Garden.
Join the Friends of the Public Garden as they celebrate this book as well as Mother’s Day during the annual Duckling Day Parade on May 12.
10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. For families wishing to participate in the parade, registration is available online for $35 per family. $40 day of the event.
Harlem Gospel Choir Mother’s Day brunch
Give mom a music-filled Mother’s Day with a special brunch buffet featuring the world-renowned Harlem Gospel Choir. The buffet menu includes beef brisket, eggs Benedict, a dessert station, and more.
2 p.m. $25.
Roger Williams Park Zoo
Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providenec will be offering free admission to all mothers when accompanied by a paying child from May 11-12. The zoo will also be hosting a myriad of activities to celebrate mom on her special day.
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Borromeo Quartet
If your mom’s a classical music fan, then head to the Old Meetinghouse in Francestown, N.H., on Mother’s Day for a special performance by the world-renowned Borromeo Quartet. The event will mark the conclusion of the group’s series of performances of the complete Beethoven string quartets.
3 p.m. $25.
Fort Point Art Walk
From May 10-12, Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood will holding its annual spring event as over 75 artists’ studios and galleries open their doors — free of charge — to the public. Festivities include artist demonstrations, hands-on activities and live performances.
Shelburne Museum Spring Fest
The Shelburne Museum kicks off its 2013 season on May 12 with a myriad of events that mom is sure to enjoy. Activities include a walking tour of the museum’s grounds and gardens, musical performances, gardening demonstrations and even a Mother’s Day doll tea party.
10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Quassy Amusement Park
Quassy Amusement Park is offering a free, all-day wristband to mom with the purchase of an all-day, child’s wristband on Mother’s Day. In addition to the free admission, mom will also get a free dinner voucher.
Afternoon tea at Cabot Mill Antiques
Give mom an elegant Mother’s Day experience this year by having afternoon tea at Cabot Mill Antiques. The antique emporium, located in southern Maine, will be also offering complimentary tea, coffee, tea cakes, and an assortment of pastries. The event will also feature various decorating demonstrations by Diane Vella as well as various prize giveaways throughout the duration of the event.
11: 30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Admission is free.
Mystic Aquarium/Mystic Yachting Club
Mystic Aquarium will be offering free admission to moms with a full paid child admission on May 11 and 12. Once you’re done checking out all the different sea creatures, head to the Mystic Yachting Club on May 12 for a special Mother’s Day brunch put on by Ocean Blue Catering. Menu items include baked sole, smoked salmon, breakfast stations and more.
Brunch: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. $39.95 for adults, $14.95 for children 4-12. Children 3 and under are free. Reservations required.
