If the Ogunquit, Maine Inn up for grabs through an essay contest wasn’t quite for you, how about a B&B in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine?

Dennis and Chris Aplanalp have owned and operated the Freedom House Bed and Breakfast, formerly an 1880s farmhouse, for nearly 13 years. With the birth of their ninth grandchild, they’re ready to retire and move from the central part of the Pine Tree State back to their native California, so they’re calling upon all “dreamers, writers, and entrepreneurs” to take over their business by writing an essay.

This can be your little corner of our world on Freedom House porch.

Hopeful innkeepers must submit an entry fee of $150 and a 200-word essay that should open with the line, “I would like to own and operate a beautiful bed and breakfast, like Freedom House B and B…” by September 19.

This is where we prepare the breakfast each morning. Yesterday was blueberry pancakes!!! Yes delicious!!!

The Aplanalps are following a similar structure to the Almost Home Inn essay contest by keeping an arm’s length away from the final decision. The couple will select the top 25 essays, and then a separate panel will judge those. The winner will be chosen by October 13.

Look for this sign at our entrance, come on up the driveway and enjoy a cup of coffee in a rocker on our porch.
