If you thought you wouldn’t step foot on a rooftop bar until spring, you might want to think again. Beginning Thursday, you can enjoy the sweeping views of The Envoy Hotel’s Lookout Rooftop and Bar while sipping cocktails inside a heated 7-foot-tall “igloo.”
Rob Saunders, general manager of The Envoy’s Outlook Kitchen and Bar and Lookout Rooftop and Bar, snagged the idea from the New York City rooftop bar 230 Fifth.
“We were trying to figure out a way to kind of utilize our rooftop during the wintertime,” Saunders said.
The six igloos, which measure 12 feet across, are made of weatherproof plastic that won’t obstruct the skyline and harbor views, Saunders said. They’re each furnished with chairs and a table, and if someone in your party wants a drink, you just flip a switch, which turns on a red light and signals your server. No food will be served in the igloos.
Intrigued? The igloos are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is a two-hour time limit per party. For a not-yet-finalized price, guests can rent an entire igloo for two hours, as well, Saunders said.
“It is definitely unique to Boston,” Saunders said. “So we’re excited to get it rolling.”
The igloos will be open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 4 to 10 p.m. through mid-April.
