The first step is admitting your addiction, right? Here goes, I love to ski, and I love to talk about skiing. These are both obsessions I suppose, but at least one of them is healthy. Social media has opened up the opportunity to interact with other skiers and ski resorts around the globe. Facebooking with my fall line friends is a great fix between trips to the ski trails. And there is the obvious benefit of getting the real scoop on ski conditions, since people can post on ski resorts’ walls with the day’s actual snow report – call it the facebook filter of flurries versus a mammoth dump of snow.
My latest, I love the Liftopia’s facebook challenge app. You can click on every ski resort you have bagged with the “Where I have skied” app, which is a cool calculation by itself. But then you can take the challenge to the next level, by challenging your friends to a virtual vertical showdown. I have skied 107 ski areas in North America and Europe, pretty cool. How about you? Of course, no turns are carved, calories burned, or vertical accumulated with this facebook feature – so hit the ignore button if this sounds too braggadocios and boring to you.
See you on the slopes.
