Lindsey Vonn’s ski knee…

Sunday, Lindsey Vonn was seen at the Chiefs-Broncos game in Denver with Tiger Woods. Monday, she was skiing at Copper Mountain and tweeting, “Catching some air today in Downhill training @gopro #headwhatsyourlimit.”

Tuesday, Lindsey may have found her limit during a high speed crash while training Downhill in preparation for the Beaver Creek World Cup next week and the Sochi Winter Games next February.

Today, Wednesday, the word comes from Dr. Bill Sterett, her Vail physician, and the U.S. Ski Team, “Vonn reinjured her right knee yesterday, suffering a partially torn ACL, a strained knee ligament, shoulder contusions and mild facial abrasions. She will begin physical therapy as soon as possible. How she responds to treatment will determine if she will be ready to compete this February at the 2014 Winter Olympic in Sochi, Russia.”

“Lindsey will rest for a few days and then pursue aggressive physical therapy and will determine the next time she is able to compete after seeing how she responds to the treatment,” said a statement released by Lewis Kay, Vonn’s publicist.

As we all recall, Lindsey Vonn tore the ACL and MCL and fractured her tibia in that right knee in a brutal crash in Schladming Austria on Feb. 5. We also know the Sochi Winter Games begin February 6, 2014 – just 78 days away, where Vonn had hoped to defend her Downhill Gold Medal – her third Olympics.

Lindsey Vonn is the most successful female ski racer in U.S. history with four World Cup overall titles and 59 World Cup victories for the U.S. Ski Team. She had successfully returned to the slopes a few months ago but had not yet returned to competition, skipping the World Cup opener in Solden Austria in late October. Teammate Ted Ligety won for the US Ski Team at his World Cup debut. On the women’s team, Mikaela Shiffrin won the first World Cup slalom in Finland. Mikaela is 18.

As for Lindsey Vonn, did she rush back to racing? Came she come back again? You can imagine these are questions weighing heavily on the World Cup ski racer on this Wednesday.
