Travelers departing from Boston will soon be able to get one last taste of the city at local favorites like Kelly’s Roast Beef, Sullivan’s Castle Island, and the Boston Public Market.
“As a gateway to Massachusetts and beyond, it is important that we provide our passengers with a unique experience when they are at Logan,” Massport spokeswoman Jennifer Mehigan told The Boston Globe, who first broke the news on Tuesday. “Having local businesses throughout the terminals allows visitors to the area to see and taste a small part of what Boston and New England have to offer.”
Terminal B, which is home to United and American airlines, is getting two new spots before the end of the year: Italian eatery Lucca Restaurant & Bar, as well as Kelly’s Roast Beef, known for its roast beef sandwiches and lobster rolls.
Dan Doherty, vice president and director of operations at Kelly’s, said that while Kelly’s Logan location will be smaller than what customers might be used to in Danvers, Medford, Revere Beach, or Saugus, the roast beef will be the same the restaurant has been serving since it opened in 1951.
“Truthfully, we get a lot of customers right now who come off a flight from wherever they came from and come right to our locations,” Doherty said. “Now they can come off the flight and get [our food] right there [in the airport]. And in turn … they can take the food and bring it back to friends and relatives to wherever they’re traveling.”
Next spring, 3-year-old Boston Public Market, which has a flagship location at 100 Hanover St. downtown, will open a 6,000-square-foot marketplace in Terminal C. The market will offer options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including sandwiches, soup, snacks, a salad bar, a full-service bar, and more, according to a press release from the market, to those flying airlines including JetBlue and Alaska Airlines. The market itself will mirror its Hanover Street predecessor’s design in that it will feature stalls accented with barn-like details.
And that’s not all. Also set to open at Logan in 2019: Alta Strada, B.Good, Bruins Bar, Celtics Bar, Mija Cantina & Tequila Bar, Monument Restaurant and Tavern, Not Your Average Joe’s, Saloniki Greek, Santarpio’s Pizza, Sullivan’s Castle Island, Tico, and Trade.
On the retail end of things, Massport also announced Wednesday that Boston-based athletic brand New Balance will open its first-ever airport location at Logan next year.
