Fox Signs on Writer, Producer for Series Based on Marathon Bombings

Fox has signed on a writer and producer to create a series based on the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, according to The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.

The story for the to-be-named “event series’’ is being written by film critic-turned-film writer Rod Lurie (“Nothing But the Truth,’’ “The Contender’’) and will be produced by “We Are Marshall’’ producer Basil Iwanyk.

The series is slated to be based on the non-fiction book by Boston Globe reporters Scott Helman and Jenna Russell, “Long Mile Home: Boston Under Attack,’’ which chronicled the stories of five people whose lives were changed after the bombings.

Deadline noted that Lurie and Iwanyk have both produced “films with Boston themes,’’ including Lurie’s “What Doesn’t Kill You,’’ and Iwanyk’s “The Town.’’

Lurie visited Boston before the 2014 marathon and allegedly posted a message about his experience in the Hub on his Facebook page. Deadline included the post’s text where Lurie called Boston “a big beautiful city with a bounce-back population that takes care, not just of its own, but others as well.’’
