Brian d’Arcy James had multiple wardrobe malfunctions while repping Spotlight at the Golden Globes

Co-star Mark Ruffalo and Melissa McCarthy helped the poor guy out at his first award show.

Brian d’Arcy James, who played The Boston Globe reporter Matt Carroll in Spotlight, talked about his Golden Globes mishaps on Late Night with Seth Meyers Monday.

This marks d’Arcy James’s first awards season, and the actor’s first Golden Globes/Hollywood red carpet was marred with some wardrobe malfunctions, he told Meyers. Luckily, d’Arcy James’s Spotlight co-star Mark Ruffalo and actress Melissa McCarthy came to the rescue.

First, d’Arcy James realized en route to the ceremony that his jacket was missing a button, but his driver came through with safety pins. McCarthy lended a hand on the carpet.

Then, during the ceremony, the studs on d’Arcy James’s shirt popped out, leaving his shirt wide open. That prompted Mark Ruffalo to ask, “What’s wrong with your shirt?’’ d’Arcy James told Meyers.

Ruffalo, who played Globe reporter Michael Rezendes, helped d’Arcy James look for his tux studs. Underneath the table. On his hands and knees. What a guy.

“[Ruffalo] goes, ‘I found two of them!’’’ d’Arcy James said. “He was just so game.’’
