Here’s John Goodman’s first try at a Boston accent for Patriots’ Day

The actor appeared on last night’s Late Night with Seth Meyers.

John Goodman, who just signed on to Mark Wahlberg’s movie about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, gave us a taste of what his Boston accent might look like in the film.

He appeared on Wednesday’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Meyers asked him about taking the Patriots’ Day role. Goodman said he was going to take a break from acting, but had a change of heart.

“The script comes in and I’m like, ‘Ehhhh. I gotta do it,’’’ Goodman said. “But I gotta come up with a Boston accent. I don’t want to sound like the guy from Cheers—who would normally be my go-to guy. And it’s a great accent.’’

Meyers then gives him an opportunity to try the Boston accent. Here it is:

Not bad. But like a musician who leaks one snippet of one verse, we need to hear more to be sold.
