John Oliver had a message for the rest of the world on behalf of America Sunday night.

After lambasting President Donald Trump’s comments about “shithole countries” and his administration’s foreign policy efforts, the host of “Last Week Tonight” took a moment to speak as “an immigrant who has fallen in love with this country” (16:34 mark).

“Donald Trump does not reflect America,” he said during the start of show’s fifth season. “To be completely honest, he does reflect it a bit, but the point is America is not one thing. It’s a beautiful mess of contradictions where good and bad mix together.”

To illustrate the mix of the best and the worst, the late night host pulled out a box of Popeyes chicken, a bed in the shape of the batmobile, and had the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus sing Smashmouth’s “All Star,” while people wearing inflatable T-Rex costumes danced nearby.
