Captain Jack Sparrow is heading back to the big screen, savvy?
Johnny Depp, the star of the unnamed “Black Mass”-based biopic which has been filming in and around Boston this summer, will reprise his role as the swashbuckling, tipsy pirate in the fifth installment of the “Pirates” franchise on June 30, 2017.
Yes, you’ll have to wait three more years for ”Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” to premiere. The film was originally set to debut in 2015, but was put on hold due to script issues, according to Variety.
Jerry Bruckheimer is set to produce the latest installment in the multi-billion dollar series, which will be directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (“Kon Tiki”).
“I think we’re back to more of a straight ‘Pirates’ movie this time,” Bruckheimer said when asked about the film, Den of Geek reports.
The first four “Pirates” films raked in $3.7 billion at the box office.
