NEWBURYPORT — Back by popular demand, Sweethaven Gallery and the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport are hosting an ENCORE lecture of Ansel Adams — Environmentalist and Photographer – by Lance Hidy, as part of the Northshore Photography Lecture Series. Mr. Hidy will discuss the iconic American photographer Ansel Adams (1902–1984). Hidy's talk is on Thursday, May, 23, 2019, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Firehouse Center for the Arts, Market Square, Newburyport, MATickets: Adults $10; Students $5, (plus a $2 processing fee)

Hidy was chosen by Adams to collaborate on the last book of his career, "Yosemite and the Range of Light" (1979). Through this first-hand experience, Hidy brings a personal perspective to the Ansel Adams story. In his lifetime, Adams shot over 40,000 photographs; he produced several dozen books that have sold over a million copies; he co-founded the first museum department of photography at the Museum of Modern Art; and, for nearly 40 years he was a leader in the Sierra Club. The lecture will be enlivened by quotes from Adams’ autobiography, and by dozens of his finest photographs.
