The composers bring together three different religious traditions from the Baroque era, those of the Anglican, Lutheran and Catholic churches, and represent hopeful music for Advent and Christmas. Buxtehude was a teacher of Bach, and his sunny and joyful music represents the best of the Baroque tradition in that generation. Vivaldi's "Magnificat," one of his lesser known works, is similar to his popular "Gloria" and brings a sense of gravitas to the performance.
