The Bedford Historical Society with a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council is co-sponsoring this event with the Bedford Library. The program is free and open to the public and will be held in the McAllaster Room. Cristina Ashjian, art historian, will be with us speaking on “Exemplary Country Estates of New Hampshire”. She will talk about the outstanding estates built in N.H. between 1902 and 1913. Apparently, the N.H Board of Agriculture, during this time, pushed to have abandoned farms and homes sold to "summer people" thinking it would help the rural economies in the state and bring in more tourists. She will also include those sites that are now opened to the public like The Fells, Saint- Gaudens National Historic site and The Rocks in Bethlehem. This should be fascinating and great information for your summer outings! Light refreshments will be served.
