Author Jay Atkinson appears at the Hampstead Public Library on Tuesday, February 12 at 7 pm, to discuss his book Massacre on the Merrimack.
He'll talk about the history of Hannah Duston, a colonial mother of 9 who was taken captive by the Abenaki during King William's War in 1697. In service to the French, the Abenaki attacked the village of Haverhill, MA, killing 27 colonists and taking 13 captive. Hannah's story is one of captivity, revenge, and escape. The town of Haverhill erected a statue to commemorate the exploits of this colonial heroine.
This event is made possible by the Friends of the Hampstead Public Library. It is free and open to the public.
