Entering the Darkness
~ Tenebrae means “shadows.”
This service is an enactment of Jesus’ last hours with his disciples. One by one, they abandon him, extinguishing a candle as they go. In the end, we sit in darkness as we hear a voice singing, “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?” The service ends in silence.
On this night we enter the dark period of Holy Week when we recognize that the joy of Easter is preceded by Jesus’ betrayal, trial, and crucifixion.
All are welcome.
