The Power of Prevention is a one-day summit which brings together some of the most important content for adults and parents in one place. The date was deliberately chosen on the Patriots bye week, for convenience, and Scituate Recreation will provide FREE onsite childcare to make it even easier to participate for three hours.
Starting at 1:00pm, keynote speaker and Director of the Center for Adolescent Substance Abuse Research at Boston Children's Hospital, Dr. Sion Kim Harris, will be discussing The Latest Science on the Teen Brain and Substance Use. Through a combination of striking brain-images, revealing statistics, and real-life examples, Dr. Harris demonstrates how substance-use, especially during teenage years, can impact the developing brain, and why prevention is the best way to keep young people safe and help them avoid potential substance-use related issues in the future.
Following Dr. Sion’s presentation, attendees have the opportunity to participate in two additional breakout workshops, depending on what they feel is most important and relevant for them and their child. The 4 available workshop topics to choose from include: parenting your teen through real-life situations, marijuana/cannabis, vaping, and anxiety. We encourage people to register ASAP, as slots filled up quickly last year!
The Power of Prevention is FREE to attend, including all workshops, resource materials, refreshments and childcare. An optional donation of $10 will be welcome at the door.
