The Forest for the Trees, Painting and Mixed Media

by Patricia Crotty

March 3 – 31, 2019

Artist’s Reception: Thursday March 7, 6-8pm

"I love to walk in the woods here at Habitat. I often come to draw and paint here. With global warming an ongoing concern, I feel drawn to pay attention to the natural spaces nearby, and to celebrate the beauty and peace to be found there. I notice the broken branches, the fallen trees, and see them as part of the bigger picture, which is happening all around us but is hard to grasp.

With sketches, memory, and the feeling of a place as a starting point, I work on my paintings and mixed-media pieces over many days, and the moments add up in layers that I add to, scrape away, and cover over. The specific places and trees become more abstract as each day the piece changes, until the different parts come together to add up to an inter-connected whole."
