1000 Postcards for the Planet is a visual art project designed to engage and educate people about climate change.
For each program, we bring science based educational materials
for participants to read and discuss. Our materials are developed with the assistance of members of the international climate change organization 350.org, as well as local scientists. We supply a wide variety of recycled postcards and art materials for collage and drawing, and invite participants to decorate a postcard reflecting their thoughts about climate change. Participants are asked
to address a message on the back to whomever they feel needs to hear their thoughts about the planet. Recipients include family members or neighbors, a state legislator, town or city officials, a federal official, or any leader who could be called on to take action on behalf of the earth.
We will use the collected 1000 postcards to construct a three
dimensional sculptural installation to be exhibited in several venues around the state. After exhibition, the installation will be dismantled, and the cards will be sent to their addressees.
