Reflecting the diverse spectrum of talent from the 1920s to the present, from composers and bandleaders, to singers and producers, this exhibit honors the remarkable contribution women have made to this truly American form of musical expression.

“Kate Shaffer reveals a deep and abiding affection for her subjects,” says Regis College Fine Arts Center Director, Jennifer Potts. “We are especially pleased to exhibit Kate’s work during both Black History and Women’s History month as these portraits bring to vivid life the pioneering women of jazz. Each faced tremendous obstacles either because of their race or sex, and so it is with this exhibit that we hope to shed light and celebrate their remarkable achievements.”
