Narragansett and Del’s team up for Black Cherry Shandy

You just might need to go to Rhode Island to find it.

Last summer brought us the marriage of Narragansett beer and Del’s Lemonade in the form of a special edition summer shandy. A year later, the two Rhode Islanders are debuting their second offering.

Narragansett Del’s Black Cherry Shandy, which adds the sweet, tart flavor of black cherries to the brewery’s signature lager, hits shelves today. The brewery only produced a limited amount of cases for this libation, according to a release, and the beer will be sold only in Rhode Island liquor stores, at least to start.

The term “shandy’’ refers to a beverage made by combining beer and lemonade, soda, or another soft drink. Last year’s initial run of Narragansett Del’s Shandy sold out almost instantly.

“Last summer, Narragansett Del’s Shandy took the country by storm and we wanted to build on that excitement,’’ says Mark Hellendrung, president of Narragansett Beer. “With this year being Narragansett’s 125th anniversary, we were excited to create something truly special for Rhode Island with a fellow Ocean State institution by releasing our second flavor of Del’s Shandy available only in our home state for the time being.’’
