Instead of packing acupressure wrist bands for this year’s Thanksgiving trip to grandma’s house, you may want to try a snack. The Anchor Nutrition Bar is designed to aid nausea caused from motion sickness to morning sickness.
The bar is produced by Real Food Solutions, which makes products that try to combat common illnesses through whole foods. The bar’s active ingredients includes protein, ginger, and vitamins.
“The idea is that there are a range of everyday discomforts that can be alleviated through food-based solutions. We’re creating novel products that are easy to understand and not pharmacological in nature,’’ CEO Neheet Trivedi told Boston.com.
Real Food Solutions selected the ingredients by studying clinical research, and with help from gastroenterology specialist Dr. Rupa Mukherjee, Boston Magazine reported.
Does it work?
The Cambridge-basedMassChallenge startup gave the bars to actual, sea-faring Boston consumers. The bars were eaten by passengers aboard two Boston Harbor Cruise ships on different occasions. According to Real Food Solutions, 73 percent of people who ate the bars said they experienced prevention or relief from nausea.
They tried a similar study on the Capt. John Fishing and Whale Watching boat, in Plymouth, earlier this year. The company again reported that 89 percent of particpants said the bars aided with their nausea.
According to AAA, 46.3 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more during Thanksgiving. Of those travelling, 10 to 30 million will experience nausea and motions sickness in the US this holiday.
