The list of semi-finalists nominated for James Beard Awards—think the Oscars, but for the restaurant and beverage industries—came out on Wednesday. Boston, and Massachusetts more broadly, fared well: Twenty local professionals made the cut.
Some big nominations include Joanne Chang, pastry chef and owner of Flour Bakery + Cafe, who got a nod for her work in the Outstanding Baker category. Café ArtScience in Cambridge and Row 34 in the Seaport snagged spots in the Outstanding Bar Program category, and Ana Sortun, of Cambridge’s Oleana, was nominated for Outstanding Chef. Chef and co-owner Irene Li of Mei Mei Boston was nominated for Rising Star of the Year, as was Cambridge spot Loyal Nine’s executive chef and co-owner Marc Sheehan.
