Sandwiched between Finesse Pastries and Chestnut Farms at the Boston Public Market, a new permanent vendor has popped up — pun intended.
The spot is the first retail location for The Popover Lady, a small, Melrose-based popover and baked goods company. Owner and baker Naomi Cannistraci started selling her hollow rolls made from egg batter eight years ago at weekend farmers markets.
Her new stall offers a variety of sweet and savory popovers using natural ingredients in flavors such as Asiago cheese, toasted onion, cinnamon sugar, and chocolate drizzle. Other baked goods such as scones and fruit pies are available, and Cannistraci hopes to sell popover sandwiches filled with ingredients from her neighboring vendors.
The opening comes after The Popover Lady completed three pop-up stints at the Public Market space in two years. The company is the third BPM pop-up alum to sign a lease for a permanent space.
“We’re delighted to welcome back The Popover Lady, this time in a permanent capacity,” BPM CEO Cheryl Cronin said in a press release. “Popovers are a New England favorite; Naomi’s product aligns well with our focus on showcasing the best of what the region has to offer while also further diversifying our breakfast and baked good offerings.”
The Boston Public Market is open Mondays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
