Last week, we asked Boston.com readers where you get your favorite ice cream and topping. It must be the high temps and sticky weather because we received more than 1,500 total votes.

More than 680 readers weighed in with enthusiastic recommendations for their go-to ice cream shop. Readers shared 135 locations across New England and your favorite, with 79 votes, was Erikson’s Ice Cream in Maynard. Readers recommend ordering the wintergreen chip or green monster. “They are always welcoming and make a top quality product,” Susan Francis said of the 83-year-old spot. “They are also doing the hard work of keeping customers and staff safe in the current environment.”

Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour in Mashpee came in a close second with 68 votes. “Amazing ice cream, always fun new surprise combinations, adorable kitschy atmosphere when open inside and hands down, the best owner ever,” Jessica Kelley shared of the Cape Cod location.

The third place vote went to Kimball Farm in Westford with 44 votes. “Great selection, huge portions,” Chuk said. “Standard order is hot fudge sundae, maple walnut ice cream, whipped cream and nuts. I hope they keep the online ordering feature. No waiting in line.”

Other top performers included Richardson’s, Crescent Ridge and New City Microcreamery

And of the more than 800 readers who shared their favorite topping, hot fudge won with 34 percent of the vote, and jimmies/sprinkles came in a close second at 29 percent. Other toppings like fruit, nuts, and peanut butter cup came in at an even spread each with less than 10 percent of the vote.

Some of you wrote in to the “other” category, mostly with a vote for peanut butter sauce along with a couple of creative suggestions like rhubarb and marshmallow.
