It’s been a banner week for doughnuts. First, Kane’s Donuts announced the soft opening of its newest location in Saugus, right by the iconic orange dinosaur on Route 1. Today, Blackbird Doughnuts opened its fourth location — and is offering free mini doughnuts this weekend to celebrate.
The gourmet doughnut shop opened at 100 Holton St. in Brighton on Thursday morning, selling its coveted yeast and cake doughnuts, ice cream sandwiches, and cold brew floats to customers starting at 7 a.m. During its opening month, the shop will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with plans to expand hours once the staff gets comfortable with the new space and production schedule.
And speaking of production: The Brighton shop is attached to Blackbird’s brand-new, 5,600-square-foot production facility. Owner Rebecca Roth Gullo told Boston magazine that she “built this space to anticipate our future. Not necessarily for today, but I wanted to do something to accommodate the growth Blackbird will be doing over the next three to five years.” She also told the publication that more shops will be opening in 2019 and 2020.
Customers can stop by the Holton store this weekend for free mini doughnuts while supplies last. If you’re not in the Brighton area, Blackbird’s other locations in Boston (492 Tremont St., 20 Kilmarnock St.) and Cambridge (15 Holyoke St.) are still going strong, serving current flavors that include winter citrus, blood orange cotton candy, mint chocolate, and the cult-favorite everything bagel doughnut.
