The Camberville Hot Dog Crawl is the quintessential summer food challenge

'Tis the season for all the hot dogs.

Maybe you’ve already had a Fenway Frank this summer. Or maybe you haven’t indulged in a single hot dog this season. Whatever your summer hot dog status, there’s always room for more dogs — especially when tackling the Camberville Hot Dog Crawl, which makes its return for a third year on Monday.

From July 22 to July 28, hot dog enthusiasts are challenged to devour dogs at four restaurants: The Automatic, a comfort food haven in Cambridge; Buenas, an empanadas and hot dog spot at Somerville’s Bow Market; Roxy’s Grilled Cheese/A4cade, a Cambridge arcade serving stellar grilled cheese; and Trina’s Starlite Lounge, a neighborhood watering hole in Somerville.

Each restaurant will feature one or multiple hot dogs — Buenas, for example, will serve both the Cubano (a Cuban sandwich in the form of a hot dog) and the ‘Nada Dog (a hot dog wrapped in empanada dough) for the duration of the week, while rotating in its Chilean and Colombian hot dogs. Roxy’s will offer a dog special of the day as well as hot dogs from around the world, including the Parm Dog stuffed with mozzarella and marinara sauce and topped with fontina and parmesan cheeses.

After eating, participants will receive a stamp on a crawl card that can be picked up at any location. Those taking on the challenge can eat a hot dog at each stop in one day or space it out over the week. Completed cards can then be left at any of the crawl locations to be entered in a raffle for a chance to win a prize. Raffle winners will be selected on July 28 at The Automatic.

In addition to the crawl, a few restaurants are throwing related events throughout the week. Trina’s will host a hot-dog themed industry brunch from noon to 4 p.m. on July 22, and Roxy’s/A4cade will throw a puppy-themed Dogs for Dogs Party on July 23 with six hot dog specials. (A portion of the sales from the hot dog and beer combos will be donated to the Paws Project.) On July 25, participants can stop by Brick & Mortar to order from a hot dog menu and score a bonus stamp; anyone who completes the card and gets the additional stamp will receive an extra entry into the raffle.

This year will also introduce an official crawl event: the Skate Crawl sponsored by Narragansett Beer. On Sunday, the Skate Crawl will kick off at noon at Bow Market with hot dogs from Buenas and beers from Variety Bar, followed by Trina’s at 1:30 p.m., A4cade at 3 p.m., and The Automatic at 4:30 p.m. Naragansett will be giving away swag at each stop.
