As restaurants across the city continue to shutter due to COVID-19, Southie hangout Backyard Betty’s has added its name to the list of closures.

On Tuesday, the sports bar and grill took to its social media pages to share the news that it will not be reopening.

“We want to say thank you to everyone who has offered support since we abruptly closed our doors in March, along with all other Boston restaurants, due to the initial outbreak of COVID-19,” the restaurant shared on its Instagram page. “Though it was a difficult decision, we understand the health and safety of our community is the top priority. We are so appreciative of everyone who reached out with kind words and positivity over the past few months. We were hopeful to bounce back to burgers, game days, and summertime fun in the backyard; it is with an extra heavy heart that we share Backyard Betty’s will not be re-opening. We want to further express our gratitude to our entire team at Betty’s that made the backyard the creative, vibrant, fun space that it was — we couldn’t have done it without you!”

Backyard Betty’s opened in May 2018, selling classic pub food like buffalo chicken dip, burgers, nachos, and truffle fries. It was a gathering place for sports fans wanting to catch the next big game, and a popular brunch spot. But fans of the restaurant might be able to reconnect with Backyard Betty’s in the future — the announcement encouraged customers to keep an eye out on sister restaurant Publico’s social media “to learn about how you’ll be able to still get a bite of Betty’s again in Southie!”
