Call it a comeback.
After Taqueria el Barrio revealed last month that it had permanently closed its Commonwealth Ave. location, Time Out Market announced that the taqueria will reopen at the Fenway food hall, joining a roster of 11 eateries and two bars.
The new addition is scheduled to open Wednesday, offering a menu of tacos, quesadillas, nachos, house-made salsas, and more.
It’s not the first time Taqueria el Barrio, which originally opened in August 2019, has served its Mexican fare at the market. It popped up at Time Out Market’s BISq location over Labor Day Weekend.
“We are excited to bring our cherished Taqueria el Barrio concept to Time Out Market Boston, where guests can experience our very personal take on an authentic taqueria inspired by the Sonora region in Northwest Mexico,” co-owner and chef Alex Sáenz, who is also the executive chef at BISq, shared in a press release. “We recently expanded BISq’s menu at Time Out Market, and then decided to do a Taqueria El Barrio pop up for Labor Day weekend, and we are so grateful for all of the support.”
When Taqueria El Barrio first closed, Sáenz told Boston.com that the “pop up at Time Out [Market] was very successful and the feedback got the ownership at Time Out thinking about offering us a space. We are crossing our fingers that will become the case, but don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.”
Looks like all that finger crossing worked.
Diners looking to score a birria taco or two can visit Taqueria el Barrio’s new Time Out Market location at 401 Park starting Wednesday at 5 p.m.
