Colette Bakery in Medford is one of the best dessert spots in the U.S., according to Yelp

You don't want to miss their apple turnovers and kouign-amann.

Dessert fans, take note: A visit to Colette Bakery in Medford may soon be in order.

On Tuesday, Yelp released a list of the top dessert spots in the U.S. and Canada, naming Colette Bakery as the best place to find sweet treats in Massachusetts.

Colette is a relative newcomer to the local desserts scene. The bakery opened in April 2020, shortly after the state’s initial pandemic shutdown. Owners Nathalie and Franck Beddiar moved to Medford from Toulouse, France, in 2017, and have worked to provide Medford and its surroundings with classic baked goods from France, including croissants, apple turnovers, eclairs, chouquettes, and more. There are savory options, too, like sandwiches and quiche, and on weekends, the bakery serves sugar-crusted kouign-amann.

Other New England states received a shout-out on the list, including Brooklyn Baking Co. in Waterbury, Conn.; The Gelato Fiasco in Brunswick, Maine; Elephantine Bakery in Portsmouth, N.H.; Pastiche in Providence, R.I.; and Shy Guy Gelato in Burlington, Vt.

To find the best dessert spots in the U.S. and Canada, Yelp considered businesses in the desserts, cupcakes, cake shop, bakery, donuts, ice cream, and shaved snow categories. The review site then looked at total volume and ratings of reviews in order to rank each shop. According to Yelp, each business on the list was open as of January 27, 2021.
