Fans of Loyal Nine in East Cambridge have two more weeks to enjoy the restaurant before it serves its final meal.
On Friday, the restaurant announced that its seven-year run will come to an end.
“After dinner service on Saturday, December 18th, Loyal Nine will close its doors for the last and final time,” read an Instagram post. “As a business and as individuals, we’ve grown quite a bit since we first established our restaurant and coffee shop seven years ago. While the last 18 months have had their challenges, reflecting on our time in East Cambridge comes with sincere joy as we appreciate all that has been given to us.”
The post went on to thank their customers, and to encourage them to visit Loyal Nine’s sister restaurant, Northern Spy, in Canton.
“Thank you to our community, our staff, and our regulars,” it continued. “Two more weeks ahead of resurrecting forgotten New England food traditions, kicking back Grower wines, sipping on some Dark Matter coffee, and sharing good vibes in the ‘hood. We’ll miss you, and look forward to hosting you in Canton @northernspyma.”
Loyal Nine opened at 660 Cambridge St. in 2015. Helmed by chef and co-owner Marc Sheehan, the restaurant serves “East Coast revival” cuisine, focusing on locally sourced ingredients with a nod to New England history. During the pandemic, it embraced outdoor seating, and a massive barn structure was constructed on the patio. Toward the end of 2020, the Loyal Nine team opened Northern Spy in Canton, another tribute to regional specialties and history (the restaurant sits on Paul Revere’s old Copper Rolling Mill).
Loyal Nine fans reacted to the news on Instagram with their own memories and favorite dishes.
“So sad and wishing you all the best in Canton — you will remain my favorite cafe ever,” wrote @heatherschmidt_. “The team was always so kind and just plain wonderful. The food, coffee, all of it just incredible. Thank you for being there and wishing you all the best!”
“Heartbreaking…” echoed @sa01ho. “The best morning sandwich, the best French fries, best atmosphere always gave me relaxing moments…Wish all of you guys all the best!”
“A tremendous loss to the local dining scene,” @bkane2.0 wrote. “Such a fantastic team. An unmatched experience from the food to the service. I’ve never left Loyal Nine without being thoroughly impressed. This restaurant will always hold a special place in my heart.”
