Vegan travelers have reason to cheer. While there have been niche companies and private guides offering vegan tours for years, it’s unusual to find vegan-themed tours in the larger marketplace, making Intrepid Travel’s entry onto the scene particularly appetizing.
The world’s largest adventure travel company, with more than 1,500 trips covering all continents, has announced three new tours highlighting vegan food culture in some of the most popular culinary destinations: India, Italy, and Thailand.
Departing in 2019, each meat- and dairy-free trip will offer plant-based food experiences and include insider tips on where to find the best vegan eats in their respective locales.
The India Vegan Food Adventure (April 19-26, starting at $1,160) travels to Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra to showcase why this corner of the subcontinent is one of the best spots in the world for vegan travelers. The itinerary ventures beyond the masala dosas and veggie samosas of the high street cafes and includes vegan cooking classes and visits to iconic sites like the Taj Mahal.
The Italy Vegan Food Adventure (June 7-14, starting at $2,610) ventures from Venice to Rome. Highlights include a dinner in Venice’s first vegan restaurant, a farm-to-table vegan feast, and two nights in an all-vegan villa in Tuscany.
For the Thailand Vegan Food Adventure (Feb. 23-March 2, from $1,205), travelers will feast on the vegan-friendly cuisine of Southeast Asia, with activities including a palm sugar demonstration at Tha Kha floating market and preparing a vegan meal with a local cook during a homestay in Chiang Mai.
The trips will obviously appeal to global travelers who opt out of traditional food tours but also offer meat eaters and vegetarians a way to try out veganism, with the bonus of exotic settings.
