In Fortune Magazine’s inaugural ranking of the ‘100 best workplaces for women,’ three Massachusetts companies stood out from the pack, with Acceleration Partners, Northstar Recycling, and HubSpot all making the list.

Rankings were based on employee surveys from 637 companies that made Fortune’s ‘great place to work’ reviews, so essentially, these organizations are the best of the best.

For the assessment, over 135,689 women at these companies were asked to answer 58 questions about factors like “fairness of their company’s promotions, access to information and leadership, the level of support for employees’ personal lives, and the degree of inclusiveness and connection they feel with colleagues.’’

The report also took into account how well represented women were within the company overall, as well as how many women were in executive or management roles. Companies with the highest level of parity between male and female representation scored highest.
