Police search for suspect after Lowell shooting injures two

A double shooting late Sunday night injured two people, and police continue to look for the suspect, who fled the scene on foot, Lowell police said.

At about 11:37 p.m. Sunday, police responded to 115 Salem St. after reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival, police said they observed two men on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police believe the shooting was not random, and that the victims knew the suspect.

The victims were taken to local hospitals; one of the men was eventually transferred to a Boston hospital. The scope of their injuries was not immediately available.

Witnesses told police that the suspect, a male dressed in black, fired several shots before running up Salem Street onto Bowers Street.

Lowell police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the shooting, and police patrols have been increased around Salem Street, police said.
