Mayor Walsh arrives for first full day of work at City Hall
Mayor Martin J. Walsh arrived for his first full day at City Hall at 9:12 a.m. Tuesday, still riding the emotional high of his inauguration.
Walsh clutched a medium cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee as he emerged from the front passenger seat of a black Chevy Tahoe hybrid, a police issued sport utility vehicle driven by Sergeant Winifred Cotter.
“Last night was fun, but I was happy to go home and go to bed,” Walsh said before ducking into his private elevator at City Hall. “I was there till probably 12. It was hard. So many people wanted to take pictures. I think I took more pictures yesterday than I have in my whole life.”
Walsh declined to say what former mayor Thomas M. Menino had written to him in a note he left on his desk before leaving City Hall Monday. Walsh said he had meetings all day and planned to rearrange furniture in his fifth-floor office, although he was still getting a feel for his new workspace.
“I’m still walking through doors and ending up in places I never saw before,” Walsh said. “I’ll let you know at the end of the day. I might move the desk around.”Andrew Ryan can be reached at Andrew.Ryan@globe.com.
