The Massachusetts State Police Mounted Unit said goodbye Sunday to a long serving equine member.
The horse, Elliot, died surrounded by mounted Troopers, according to a Facebook post by police. He had served the unit for 15 years, working events like sports championship celebrations, 4th of July festivities at the Esplanade, and Gillette Stadium Patriots games and concerts.
“He was a true gentleman and a true trooper to the end,” the post read. “Elliot’s gentle nature will be greatly missed by many, but will be missed most of all by the State Police Mounted Unit.”
