6-year-old hooks great white shark off Cape Cod
While a 6-year-old boy and his father spent more than an hour trying to reel in a massive catch they thought was a striped bass, they had no idea they would find a great white shark on the other end of the line, the Cape Cod Times reported.
“Blake was telling the story about how it was his fish and he needed a little help to reel it in,” Lars White, the father of 6-year-old Blake White, told the Times.
When the 10- to 12-foot-long shark came to the surface, the Whites, who are from Houston, saw that it had gotten caught on the hook where they were fishing off Rock Harbor and cut it loose, according to the Times. The catch, which was their only one of the day, also marked the first time someone has reported hooking a great white that deep in Cape Cod Bay.
Blake told his father he would like to go fishing again next weekend, but hopes they can reel in something smaller.
