‘Seeing Eye Camel’ acts as guide for blind horse at zoo
WINSLOW, Maine (AP) — A horse and a camel at a Maine petting zoo have formed an unlikely friendship.
Caesar a 5-year-old camel, is a featured animal at the Pony X-Press Zoo, a traveling zoo based in Winslow. Zoo workers say he’s become a “Seeing Eye camel” for Dolly the horse, who’s gone blind.
Ed Papsis of the zoo tells WGME-TV Caesar needed company and Dolly needed a guide, so they put the two together. The animals bonded.
Papsis says Dolly’s probably the only horse with such an arrangement.
