Watch: Researchers capture video of ‘white shark Danny,’ seek prayers for its 7-year-old namesake battling cancer

The brief clip offers an up-close encounter with a great white.

Researchers for the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries recently captured footage of a great white shark swimming in waters off the Cape Cod coast.

The brief clip shows water washing over the submerged camera as it slowly drops deeper to reveal a great white floating by the lens.

This up-close encounter, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, features a shark named after 7-year old Danny Sheehan, who in January 2017 was diagnosed with Pineoblastoma  a very rare and aggressive form of brain cancer  and leptomeningeal disease, which occurs when cancer cells migrate into the cerebral spinal fluid.

Danny’s battle continues to this day,” Conservancy officials wrote on the video’s Facebook post. “We ask all of our supporters to send positive thoughts and prayers his way.”
