It’s a culinary collision of sorts — one that involves eggs, pretzels, and chicken sausage, as well as cheese and mustard.

Those are among the ingredients of a new offering from Honey Dew Donuts, a coffee-and-donut shop chain with with more than 150 locations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

As described by Plainville-based Honey Dew, the new offering is “a hearty al fresco Chicken Sausage and egg sandwich, topped with melted cheddar cheese and Dijon mustard — all nestled in a pretzel style roll.’’

The sandwich will be offered at all Honey Dew Donuts locations at an introductory price of just $2.99 (plus tax) from Sept. 8 through Sept. 22, the chain said.

The pretzel sandwich, apparently, is an idea whose time has come. Dunkin’ Donuts recently unveiled the Pretzel Roll Roast Beef Sandwich. Canton-based Dunkin’ added that the pretzel roll can also be enjoyed as part of any Dunkin’ Donuts Bakery Sandwich.

In a statement, Honey Dew Associates president and chief executive Richard Bowen said of Honey Dew’s new offering: “This sandwich has a fantastic balance of flavors that will add some zest to your morning breakfast. We partnered with al fresco because we know they produce a quality product with all natural ingredients and great taste. Pretzel bread is hot right now, and we are eager to introduce this delicious spicy and tangy sandwich to our existing sandwich line up.’’

According to Honey Dew, al fresco is the number one chicken sausage brand in the US.
