Barstool Founder, Others React Angrily to Protests
Twitter users in Boston were quick to sound off on protesters who blocked traffic on I-93 Thursday morning. The protests, which began around 7:30a.m., took place in Medford and Milton. Protesters, who chained themselves to concrete-filled oil barrels, held up traffic until they were removed from lanes around 10 a.m. Police report that 29 arrests were made by the end of the proceedings.
In a city known worldwide as the site of another famous protest, folks took to social media to voice their frustration. Some sympathized; some wished protesters had chosen a less-trafficked location.
Others seemed to miss the point entirely:
So should any losses due to the Boston #BlackLivesMatter protest be turned into George Soros for reimbursement?
— #ResignDeBlasio (@WarrenWilhelmJr) January 15, 2015 It takes far less effort to job hunt than this. #BostonProtest #IDIOTS
— Candice McDonald (@CandiceMcD) January 15, 2015 #BostonProtest So we are supposed to apologize for being born white? For driving to work, so that we can pay taxes?
— jshay9178 (@jshay9178) January 15, 2015 Missed mtg. sitting in traffic, but my heart went to this: "All I was doing was trying to get home from work." -Rosa Parks #bostonprotest
— Elizabeth (@ElizabethEv) January 15, 2015 There was anger:
The lesson from the Boston protest: Never brake for pedestrians in the middle of a highway.
— Яob (@robx_d) January 15, 2015 When your mission is to intimidate & hold people hostage that is Terrorism #BostonProtest #highwayprotest #BlackBrunchNYC #BlackLivesMatter

— Scott Andrews (@Scottlovesk) January 15, 2015 @BLM_Boston if it wasn't for the police that you hate so much, your protest would've had a much different ending #roadkill
— Tanker (@tankthehamster) January 15, 2015 Not to be outdone, Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy registered his complaint:
We need to MURDER every single protester who blocks highways. End of story http://t.co/wqyxnDkJ4V pic.twitter.com/uF4SFp9dnE
— David Portnoy (@stoolpresidente) January 15, 2015 In the blog post to which the tweet links, Portnoy went on to call the protesters “homeless, jobless, losers,’’ wanting them all “harassed, dead, [and] murdered.’’
Opinions on the actions of protesters––who recently released a statement––are sure to differ. But in light of recent world events, calling for the deaths of with the right to protest seems unnecessary. No matter how late for work it makes you.
