‘This is no joke’: WBZ’s Kate Merrill shares she has been sick with COVID-19

“I have been pretty sick, but thankfully I’m getting better.”

WBZ news anchor Kate Merrill shared Monday that she tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

The Emmy award-winning journalist wrote in a note to viewers on Twitter that she is home and recovering in isolation.

“I have been pretty sick, but thankfully I’m getting better,” Merrill wrote. “This is no joke and even after a year of being very careful and always wearing a mask and taking this seriously, I was exposed and I exposed people I love.”

The anchor said she’ll be back with her team at WBZ “soon” but urged Massachusetts residents not to let their guards down against the virus even as restrictions imposed by Gov. Charlie Baker begin lifting Monday as the state moves toward the final stage of its reopening.

“Stay healthy,” Merrill wrote.
