Man held without bail in connection to shots fired at police

A 22-year-old Malden man was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing in Salem District Court Tuesday for allegedly trying to shoot two police officers when they attempted to take him into custody last week.

Jeremiah Wooden pleaded not guilty to the charges including armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery on a police officer, attempted assault and battery with a firearm, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, according to the Essex District Attorney’s office.

Authorities said that on the evening of April 14, two Salem police officers attempted to take Wooden into custody on several outstanding warrants, when he allegedly fired at them, missing both officers.
