Teen charged in murder of Fall River man

A 16-year-old has been charged in the fatal shooting of a Fall River man that occurred Monday night, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.

Joel Lopez, of Fall River, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on Harrison Street and charged with murder, authorities said.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Monday, police received reports of shots fired on Plain Street. When officers arrived, they found 29-year-old Jerrod Cohen suffering from gunshot wounds in the landing of the apartment complex where he lived, according to the DA’s office.

Cohen was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that night, authorities said.

Lopez was expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Fall River District Court.
