Maine man charged with sexual assault at New Hampshire assisted living facility

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — A maintenance worker has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman at an assisted living facility in New Hampshire.

Portsmouth police say 43-year-old Carlos Cruz, of Berwick, Maine, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for charges of burglary, sexual assault and attempted aggravated sexual assault.

Police say Cruz is accused of entering a woman’s room at the Clipper Harbor facility in September and sexually assaulting her.

The Portsmouth Herald reports police said Cruz worked as a contracted, non-staff maintenance worker at the facility, struck up a friendship with the woman, and began making sexual advances toward her, which she refused. He was confronted by the facility’s manager and was fired.

Cruz was being held without bail. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
