Bystanders in Maine take down rock-throwing man

Police say the man told troopers he used ecstasy earlier in the day.

SCARBOROUGH, Maine (AP) — A group of bystanders have helped take down a man believed to be high on drugs who was throwing rocks at cars on the Maine Turnpike.

Maine State Police say the 42-year-old man stopped his car on the median of the highway Sunday afternoon in Scarborough and began throwing rocks.

The man damaged three vehicles before a group of motorists managed to pin him to the ground.

Police say the man told troopers he used ecstasy earlier in the day.

The man has been charged with criminal mischief and hospitalized for facial lacerations.
