Three Lynn residents were arrested for trafficking heroin early Thursday morning after police stopped the vehicle they were in for speeding in Sturbridge, authorities said Friday.

A Massachusetts State Police trooper pulled over a Honda CRV heading east on Interstate 84 around 12:30 a.m. after the vehicle was seen speeding and drifting over roadway lines, according to a press release.

The driver, Juan Jaquez, 27, and his two passengers, Yanet Lopez Mendoza, 38, and Daniel Rivera-Rosario, 49, could not confirm to police that they knew the owner of the SUV, officials said.

With assistance from a state police K-9 unit, authorities found approximately 2.5 kilograms of a substance believed to be heroin in the SUV as well as $850 in cash, the statement said.

Jaquez, Lopez Mendoza, and Rivera-Rosario were arrested and charged with trafficking in heroin, police said. Jaquez was also cited for speeding and a marked lanes violation.

All three suspects were arraigned in Dudley District Court Thursday, according to the statement.
