A 27-year-old woman is accused of driving while on heroin and is facing multiple related charges after police say she hit a utility pole Saturday night in Yarmouth.

A photo Yarmouth police shared on Facebook from the scene shows the 2012 Chevy Cruze Amanda J. Shewan was reportedly driving resting at an angle on a guardrail.

Shewan, who lives on Main Street, Dennis, is charged with operating under the influence of drugs, operating a motor vehicle negligently so as to endanger, and a marked lanes violation, according to Yarmouth police.

Police and fire officials were called to the Buck Island Road scene at 7:23 p.m. a the report of a car hitting a pole with wires down and injuries.

Through an investigation, police determined that Shewan’s vehicle veered off the left side of the road and hit the pole. The car then ended up on top of the guardrail, according to police.

“Witnesses stated that the vehicle appeared to be operating within the speed limit but began weaving and swerving before crashing into the utility pole,” police said on Facebook.

Police visited Cape Cod Hospital, where Shewan was brought for treatment, as part of the investigation, and that’s where they allegedly determined that Shewan had been under the influence of heroin when the crash happened.
