A Somerset school custodian was arrested on child pornography charges, police say

Miguel Pereira, 34, worked at Somerset-Berkley Regional High School for a few weeks before his arrest, according to authorities.

A 34-year-old custodian at Somerset Berkley Regional High School was arrested Wednesday night on child pornography charges just weeks after he was hired by the school, police said.

Miguel Pereira, of Somerset, was arrested at the County Street school around 9:30 p.m. following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children task force, which discovered the pornography was shared from his IP address, Somerset police said in a statement Thursday.

Authorities said Pereira faces charges of dissemination of child pornography and possession of child pornography. A search warrant was carried out at his home prior to the arrest.

“He has been employed by the school department for only a few weeks,” the statement said.

Police Chief George McNeil said in an interview the pornography has no connection to the school. The investigation was launched a few days ago, he said.

Pereira was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at the Fall River Justice Center.
