Alleged drunk driver strikes 2 women in Beverly, police say

The women were taken to Beverly Hospital with "serious injuries."

An alleged drunk driver struck two women in downtown Beverly Thursday night, both of whom sustained “serious injuries,” police say.

Stephen G. Hendricks, 24, of Boxford now faces charges of operating under the influence of liquor causing serious bodily harm, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and a crosswalk violation, according to Beverly police.

Officials were called to the scene at the intersection of Cabot and Winter streets around 9 p.m. where they found the women, ages 56 and 19. Both were taken to Beverly Hospital; police didn’t know their conditions as of Friday morning, they said.

Police also found Hendricks’s vehicle “with heavy front end damage,” police said.

Hendricks was taken to the Beverly police station and was slated for court Friday morning.
